Is the impetus around project intake process to be sure that projects are vetted such that there is a greater chance of follow-through? To assess if there is already a similar app that could be forked from other brigades/CfA HQ? Or some other reason? Very nice item on the clarity of communication with external partners; I found that as a weakness in some instances from my 2015 research. One final thought, per the "...people still just want to talk about it..." This could be grounded in both people who think through talking and want the strongest possible project pitch via feedback from you and others; AND it returns to the question of openness to ideas (and, perhaps, goals on outreach to non-coders and segments of the community) versus what you cite as a need to "weed out" projects before they take up much time and have less likelihood of complete. Hope you get a lot of comments to keep this tread going

John B. I think this suggests general messaging that assails the credibility of the critics so they seem less trustworthy than scientists, or messaging that works to build the credibility of scientists generally might be more effective than reams of studies on the benefits of vaccines.

Bill Nye is effective because we grew up with and trust him. :)

Re: Anti-Vaccine Advcoates are Wrong, but Can We Change Their Minds?

I think this is what Bill Nye's point is about climate change and evolution deniers. Despite the sheer tonnage of scientific data Bill Nye pointed to and discussed during his debate with Ken Ham, the latter flatly refused to take any of it on board. Now I can't imagine anything much more effective than Bill Nye telling me I'm wrong and to stand there in my wrongness, but the point is that when ideology inflates ignorance, just stating the facts isn't going to do anything. The problem with the birth certificate analogy is that I am not sure what that translates to in terms of proving vaccinations are effective and life-saving.

Re: My Review of Code School and Thoughts on Online Learning

Hello Matt,

Thanks for your insight about codeschool. Further, the breadth of markets being impacted by new technologies is also expanding. That makes a strong argument for a more automated economy. Driverless cars are just an extension of operator-less machines and processes. That trend will increase and accelerate. The second issue: a large collection of unsolved problems in other areas is now being addressed quite comprehensively by the advent of big data, intelligent machines, and predictive analysis. With the introduction of "FOG" computing architecture, we're adding intelligence all the way to the edge of the cloud. Also not changing soon, and accelerating. Given that context, it is easier to see how human labor could be devalued. I share your enthusiasm for entrepreneurial ventures and there will always be some jobs for "mind workers" and "service workers," but a much smaller labor force may be in our future. And that may be a good thing for the overall quality of life.

Re: My Review of Codecademy

The paths have definitely no route, they contain no actual comprehend-able details for a starter about what you have to do and why, there is no example given about the paths session with a actual life program that would provide a purpose for why you would need to know a particular rule or why to use it.
Spybubble Gratis

Re: How to Fresh Install Mountain Lion on a New Hard Drive

This Seagate internal hard drive is great - affordable and reliable - http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0... My hard drive crashed and burned taking with it the last year of my life in photos and documents. They should not get any pay raises, given all the other perks they have entitled themselves to. If these people cannot live off $176,000 a year without a pay raise then they need to come back down to earth and try working a 40 hour week and have to pay a portion of their health insurance.....There you did it and got me started..

Re: About that Warren Buffett E-Mail

The problem is not so much their salaries but their PENSIONS!

Re: How to Get iOS 6, Mac OS X, and Google Contacts to Sync Properly

Well, I think Syncmate will do your job. You can sync media contents, photos, contacts, music and bookmarks with it. You can activate the auto-sync feature, if you want to do so. There are total 3 ways by which you can set-up synchornization. Mac to Dropbox, Dropbox to Mac and Bi-Directional. You can choose any of them as per your requirements. http://naumanlodhi.blogspot...

Re: My Review of Codecademy

I liked reading your review, but I strongly disagree with your conclusion - here's mine:

http://ludovicurbain.blogsp...

Re: My Review of Codecademy

Thanks Matt! Whether a gun or another weapon, the shooter was as you put it "crazed", or mentally ill, however you want to put it he had a disease that could have perhaps been aided and this tragedy prevented if we had a better care system for the mentally ill in America. I am not saying that gun legislation won't help but I also don't want people to lose sight of the root cause - the mental illness.

Re: The Connecticut News Facebook List

Great idea, I've subscribed!
